MOCK MEDIATION A HUGE SUCCESS

Amanda O’Dea, Co-Chair of the Montgomery County Medical Legal Committee, organized and led a mock mediation seminar at Abington Memorial Hospital on January 23, 2007. The presentation was a combined effort of the Montgomery County Bar Association and the Pennsylvania Medical Society to demonstrate the effectiveness of mediation at various stages of litigation. John F. O’Brien, III, fulfilled the role as mediator and Marshall L. Schwartz, Michael O. Pitt, and Carolyn M. Dillon played various roles in the mediation.

Thanks to the efforts of Amanda O'Dea and the other O'Brien & Ryan participants, the mock mediation was a huge success.

Dan Ryan participated in a medicolegal roundtable discussion sponsored by the journal Cataract and Refractive Surgery Today and The Dulaney Foundation. The roundtable discussion is titled “Lawyers, Guns, Money, and Medicine” and is published as a supplement to the February edition of the journal.

In the same issue of the journal, Anthony DeMichele co-authored an article titled “Recent Legal Concerns In Regard to Opthalmology.” It can be found at pages 22-23.

On Tuesday, March 13, 2007, Dorothy Duffy, Marshall Schwartz, and Michael Pitt gave a lecture to the members of the Mammography Society of Philadelphia. The lecture took place at Methodist Hospital. The topic was "Update on Medical Malpractice Involving Breast Cancer." The attendees included Radiologists and Technicians.

Dorothy Duffy was a member of the defense team for the Masters In Trial program, sponsored by the Foundation of the American Board of Trial Advocates. The program provided a demonstration of a civil jury trial from opening statements through jury deliberations. As a member of the defense team for this program, Dorothy demonstrated the art of examining and cross examining a witness. The program was held on Thursday, July 13, 2006 at the Hyatt Regency Philadelphia at Penn's Landing.
